First glimpse into Katano

Masako (our flat owner) mentioned there were restaurants around Katanoshi station, a different nearby station. so when we FINALLY got up at mid-day, we went to explore.

FYI - Pocket WIFI is amazing. It makes life 100% easier, and is portable anywhere at all.

Pretty Cherry Blossoms are EVERYWHERE!

We wondered some pretty side streets and the traditional Japanese houses are really lovely:

And some of the doors are tiny! (Ryan looks worried because something was scratching at the door - but I could see it was someone collecting their post the other side!

We stopped by at a Sumiyoshi shrine. Apparently there are over 2000 of these in Japan.

And we practised with the selfie stick while it was quiet!

Next up, to our original destination - and there are LOADS of restaurants. It was a little early, so we stopped off at a shop or two.

Shoes won't work for Ryan here!

We brought lots of interesting tasty snacks!

AND eat out at our first restaurant!... This is why it was a little daunting.

After a lot of pointing later we got this!

And eat very slowly...Ryan learning to use chopsticks

Great dishes - we now have a fall back restaurant plan!

We found a giant, buy anything shop with a super market underneath and cute shopping trolleys:

And all the veg is expensive and SMALL. Why would carrots only come in sets of three?

Our final shop looked a little like this:
