Kinkaku-ji - A golden temple

A trip to Kinkaku-ji.

As per usual it started out with a really long walk from the train station.

We should really figure out the buses.

Then we came to a point where we just followed the crowds...

To the temple itself!

This golden pavilion is a symbol of Kyoto.

The temple has been burnt down many times in history, and restored in 1955 with all gold leaf re-painted too.

The visit really consisted of walking around a large pond called Kyoko-chi with the temple in the middle, so you can see it from all angles.

But they also had this, so we tried to throw in some yen (missed every time!)

Overall - opinion is that this is just a bit of a tourist trap, and yes looks pretty, but that is detracted somewhat by shuffling after the crowds.

We found some fun vending machine items at the end though!
