So we got up crazy early, and lined up at the ticket booth for over 2 hours. Yes! We got ticket!
We met a couple from Colorado in the line, Rachel and Brendan. They joined us after our long queue to check out Tsukiji Fish Market, apparently one of the largest in the world.
It was worth it. There was a maze of narrow streets lined with stalls selling such an assortment (not one was a duplicate or sold the same!) I was also surprised, that there was no 'fishy' smell at all either. Fresh is best :)
And check it out! I was pressured into trying an assortment of cooked and raw fish.
The best were the Scallops. Freshly cracked in front of us, and blowtorched.
(Ok I do like scallops and have had then in restaurants, but they have been nothing like this!)
Then we found the real action! The indoor area of the fish market. It starts about 5am, so was closer to wrapping up when we arrived. Still a curious site, again no smell, and quite industrial as its a busy working market. It felt like we had been transported to another world.
Sushi Fish on a shell.. It still has live bits!
Tuna being sawn up ready to sell:
Well worth the trip.
