Somewhere there are whirlpools!
This is our first attempt to figure out Japanese buses.
We basically asked every single driver of every bus until we got the right one.
They have a pretty trusting ticket system. You get on the back and take a ticket, and you leave by the front, and pay according to this thing which tells you the costs based on your stop number (on your ticket)
It did take us the journey there AND back to figure out thats what this board was for!
Inevitably, we sailed by what we thought was our stop and got off at the next, the bus then turned around and went back the way it came... typical.
So we walked for a really long time, at a pretty fast pace as it was getting closer to high tide when the pools are at their best (just before closing time too!)
They had whirlpool character branded vending machines along the way! I am not sure what we will do without having a drink on every corner in the future!
We saw these stairs... walked halfway up, before turning around and walking along the road (for what seemed a while in the heat!) and found the bridge.
Phew.
We found the walkway!
It is built under a large sea bridge, and feels like an old ship, but with bumping from above as lorries pass overhead.
The whirlpools were not as defined as I had imagined. More a kaleidoscope of swirling patterns everywhere and mini whirls.
Funnily enough when we left, we were not sure where on earth to go, so we popped down some stairs...
Recognise these? Ha!
First we found some pretty views that I had to snap.
And found the bus waiting for us with it's old school but pretty clever ticket system :)
Much love
