Tokushima is famed for it's dark blue/ purple dyed garments, a natural indigo dye is made and is world famous is jeans. Famed in japan they use indigo leaves, or so we gathered, and there are no chemicals used at all. After 4000 years of doing it, they should know what they are talking about!
Our host suggested we try a workshop doing it.
This is an example they showed us of what we should be making!

It was booked and confirmed, but looks quite like a working dye shop, and we totally seemed to be unexpected, (we think - communication was stilted).

We were sat down and shown what to do with a piece of fabric, string and rubber bands. Let the tie dye knotting commence!

We ended up with these crazy things:

Then it was time to dye.
They have four Vats of dye and you start with the oldest, dip, scrunch, wash in cold water and repeat three times. Then you move to the second oldest..etc to the newest dye.

The outcomes were great - More memorabilia to add to the pile!

Much love
