So what do you do when everything is packed and you have an evening of no gadgets to entertain you?
1. Eat out.
So we decided to eat out. We are on our final days, so can't withdraw any more money. Did we nip to the super market? No, we tried a little restaurant we found.Mistake.I asked for a recommendation, and they pointed out a ten piece mix of food, from veggies to prawns fried. We attempted them all, and found the funny plant thing in the supermarkets is actually quite good! But apart from that.. thank goodness we ordered onion rings.Although the food was interesting and quite fun to 'try' (we avoided the mini whole fish as we could still see their eyes through the glaze of the batter) it was fried, bland and greasy. Also the bill! Much more than we had worked out, and the ;freebies' they brought at the start as a tiny salad. Those freebies are not free.So we went home and had an ice cream to discuss our disgust at the place :)
For the foodies who may wonder at the vegetable I mentioned:
Renkon (lotus root)
Common in Japan and greater Asia, renkon's attractive pattern makes it a useful vegetable for creating visually appealing dishes. It is not usually eaten raw, but peeled and boiled in water.
Depending on how long it is cooked, lotus root may be crunchy like a fresh carrot, or starchy and soft, like a cooked potato.
Renkon is often used in tempura, boiled in soups or stewed dishes like chikuzenni, fried in pan-cooked dishes or dressed with vinegar in a salad. It is almost always sliced to show off its attractive pattern.
2. Chess.
We discovered a chess board this week! We are quite even, Ryan has the edge. I took every piece on our latest game, and apparently Ryan still won because I couldn't check mate him.
Glass table, galls chessboard, glass pieces (some slight cloudy to differentiate). Squint away!
3. Dress up! Our hosts have left a selection of Kimonos upstairs, and shoes were available. They are there for guests to use, as in the festival season (August) you should wear the proper festive attire.
Yay my inner child was pretty damn happy - FASHION SHOW!
STUNNING dressing - although they feel like dressing gowns :D
Ryan getting camera -fancy and me getting my pose on!
Much love x
