‘Sangre y Amor en la Sierra’ , (Blood and Love in the Sierra)

Every year (for the past 8) Sierra de Grazalema, one of the white villages, take the mystery of the bandits, which were quite a phenomenon in the 19th Century, and re-enact some historical deeds to celebrate it all.

We took the bus - about an hour through the windiest craziest mountain roads ever. Not just a bus, but an elongated coach, poor driver.

Most of the journey was spent trying to snap photos of gorgeous views whenever we had a clear bit - We failed 90% of the time, but got a few!

The charm of the village was instantaneous when we arrived. Many people were dressed up as bandits and their wives, as per tradition!

Lots of huts surrounded the action with some great outdoor cooking going on.

We had to try some! They seemed to have hundreds of these clay bowels to commemorate the day and to put all of the tapas in, so cute.

The Plaza de los Asomaderos is where the action happens with the recreations, and the flamenco dancing and other acts!

We did explore the rest of the town too! The doorways are super traditional.

Everything is kept in keeping, and all is pretty and a clean white.

A great atmosphere, food, props, costumes and everything - we felt transported back to a tavern of pirates and bandits!

Much love
