Cittadella!
A medieval city with about a mile of walls all the way around it. They are in fab condition, and only a tiny section has been rebuilt.
We had to cross the town (ok it is tiny, so really not far!) to get to the walls, and cam across the cutest ice cream bars, so it was an Ice cream kind of day for Ry - I am trying to cut down on so much of it ha! So instead I tried not to look like a crazy lady while getting a photo of someone's Vespa. I would love one of these!
The walls were pretty high - not for those with a fear of heights!
We took plenty of poser photos!
THIS was the best part. On what I assume is the new section, there is a sign (below) and wires running along the top of the walls...
But nowhere else on any other parts! ha - poor little guys.
Museums and props kept us busy (for maybe 10 minutes ha it was tiny)
It is really hard to take a photo in fixed props when there is no-one around to play photographer!
We must have been the only ones on the wall that day, the town was so quiet, but we did see about three brides wondering around getting photos done in their dresses in the town.
We literally had to run to the train! Lovely and relaxed, we stepped down the last stairs of the walls, and ryan looked at the phone - a casual, oh there is a train in 20 mins at 3:15, but we may miss that one, so the next one is..... 5:30pm.
Oh no!
Running in the heat it is!
And the train was delayed.
Typical Ha!
We did make it to our next destination - Bassano Del Grappa. A bigger town, in 'Provincia di Vicenza'. Quotations here used to emphasize that I am saying it in an Italian accent by the way.
The town has a few iconic things which we didn't know about until we got there.
1. The famous strong grappa liqueur produced in the area. We had no idea but Ryan asked for locale tipico - spelling may be off - but the local special. It was in a word - horrible! he managed about 1/2 of it,, but only thanks to the view:
Which included the second thing of note in the town!
The Ponte degli Alpini, also called the old bridge, totally made of wood to cope with the onslaught of flooding when snow melts in the mountains. I am really not convinced that would help though...
We had a bit of a wonder of the large piazzas, cobbles streets and interesting shops.
And then settled for a rest in a cute little terraced cafe. We decided on a glass of wine to help Ryan get over his shock of his drink earlier.
Well. Just Do Not Try It. Bassanina Bianca.
It may sound like a white wine, and it may even have a photo of wine-ish looking stuff by it.
It is not. Don't you believe it!
When it arrived we looked at each other in pretty much horror - two shot glasses with something suspiciously vodka-like in.
It was funny, but we tried again, and got some toasties to make up for it :) This time we got it right ha!
The town was lovely, and did I mention the views?
It was the kind of weather you want to dance in!
THIS was a source of amusement for the day. A vending machine full of condoms, and all things which may go with such items on display - I mean REALLY? In a vending machine? Ha!
We made it to the station, and were approached... uh oh!
He was friendly, testing out his English. He kept asking for a photo, so we eventually agreed so we didn't upset him.
Then as we left for the arriving train (luckily less than 10 mins later) he asked Ryan for money - We were totally expecting it this time but it was still super weird.
On the way home in Treviso LOOK WHAT WE FOUND.
Mai tai's and beach comber's gold, with our own little terrace above the canal.
Beautiful day!
Much love
